Gold Tracker vs Monex: Which precious metals app should you use?

How is Gold Tracker different from the Monex Bullion Investor app?

The Monex Bullion Investor app comes from Monex Deposit Company, one of America's oldest precious metals dealers. Founded in 1967, Monex runs a two-way marketplace where you can buy and sell bullion and coins. The app focuses on market watching: real-time prices for gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, historical charts, customizable price alerts, a favorites dashboard, and Monex videos and news.

Gold Tracker is built for people who want to track holdings, not just watch prices. You can log each coin, bar, and round with the price you paid, track gain or loss per position, and calculate melt values for any karat or purity. Your portfolio stays on your device, syncs through iCloud, and can be locked with Face ID or Touch ID, with no account required and no ads.

What Gold Tracker does that Monex doesn't

The Vault — Full Portfolio Tracking

The Monex Bullion Investor app is useful for watching the market, but it does not help you track what you own. If you bought a roll of Silver Eagles at $32/oz and want to know your unrealized gain six months later, the Monex app cannot help. Gold Tracker's Vault is built for that. Every purchase is recorded as a separate lot with the exact price, weight, date, and currency. The app calculates your average cost per ounce, tracks unrealized gain or loss against the live spot price, and updates in real time. You can view your portfolio in troy ounces, grams, kilograms, or pennyweights and in any of 150+ currencies.

If you bought gold in Canadian dollars, euros, or pounds, Gold Tracker tracks the FX gain or loss separately from the metal price movement. When you sell, it records the realized profit and keeps a full history. Whether you buy from Monex, JM Bullion, APMEX, local coin shops, or estate sales, Gold Tracker gives you a single view of everything you own, which is something the Monex app was not built to do.

Melt Value Calculators

Monex's app focuses on bullion and coin prices at the product level, or what the marketplace is selling and buying. Gold Tracker includes melt value calculators that handle gold from 8K through 24K, silver at any purity (.925, .999, or custom), plus platinum and palladium. Enter a weight in troy ounces, grams, kilograms, or pennyweights and get the melt value at the current spot price. If you evaluate jewelry, scrap, or coins with unusual purities, these calculators are essential. Pawn shops, gold buyers, and dealers have relied on them since 2015. The Monex app does not include a comparable calculator.

Apple Watch & Widgets

The Monex app has no Apple Watch support, no watch face complications, and no widgets. Gold Tracker has a dedicated Apple Watch app with complications that show your chosen metal's price directly on your watch face. On iPhone, Gold Tracker also offers home screen widgets and lock screen widgets where you choose which metal to display. If you want prices visible at a glance throughout your day without opening an app, Gold Tracker gives you more ways to do that.

Privacy & Local-First Storage

The Monex app is built around the Monex platform, so it assumes you will log in, use the marketplace, and read Monex content. Gold Tracker requires no account at all. Your portfolio data is stored locally on your device, and if you enable iCloud sync, Apple encrypts that data in transit and on its servers. You can lock the vault with Face ID or Touch ID.

For anyone who considers precious metals holdings private financial information, that difference is important. Gold Tracker is designed to keep your data under your control.
